I started to have vitiligo in 2009, and my mother thought it was an allergy. She took me to all different kinds of doctors because she was scared. Years later, I started to research my skin, and I found out that it is vitiligo. I was in high school at the time, and I was scared people were going to laugh at me or maybe discriminate against me.
I planned on being a loner until I watched videos of people sharing their vitiligo stories. Then I started to accept myself for the way that I am. I started appreciating myself. I managed to socialize and saw that some people really loved my skin; they didn’t judge me for the way I was.
I am proud of who I am and of who I’ve become. I’m so glad that I learned to accept myself earlier.
